What is love?

Every woman in every city, state, country, and planet are searching for love. What is love you might ask? I have no idea, I'm pretty positive that there is not one person out there who has accomplished that question. Everyone will give you their version of love, but no one really knows what it is. All we know is that it's inevitable. It's something forced upon us at some point in our lives. Why is it forced upon us? Because, life's a bitch and it has a funny way of showing it.

There's a reason some try to avoid love; it's because it will make you absolutely miserable. Most people are too dumb to realize that love isn't what movies and books put it out there to be. They usually show a fairytale ending. When in reality it usually doesn't happen that way. So many search everywhere for love, there's a reason you rarely find it.

For most, it doesn't exist. Some get that lucky fairytale ending everyone craves. But I will let you in on a secret; Love is not that easy. My mother always told me "You have to kiss many toads before you find your prince." She could not have been more right.

Relationships are usually a 24 hour job; so it's time to quit your day job when you invest in one. You are not only taking care of yourself anymore, but for another. You have to share a bed, kitchen, sink, and shower. That sounds more like torture than happiness, am I right? You have to invest every bit of your life into that committed relationship, not even knowing the ending. It's a scary thing spending all of your time and whole heartedly loving some one to not know the outcome.

But then again, for some romantics out there; "love is worth the fight". Isn't that statement a bit contradicting? Oh well. Romantics, like Carrie Bradshaw for instance, end up with their fairytale ending after all. They look at the wine glass half full. Knowing no matter what happens they will end up with that one person. Through hell and high water, they will make it.

So maybe love really is out there. But when you get screwed over one too many times you only depend on yourself. Which is the greatest quality to have. Like Carrie Bradshaw said "Don't forget to love yourself first." Which might be the smartest piece of advice given about love. You cannot truly love another until you learn to love yourself, for who you are. Sounds totally complicated, I know.

Don't worry though, it's a life long journey that all women travel down at least once in their life before finding the right guy. So while you're busy out there trying to figure out what love is; remember to love yourself before you attempt to love another.
